Chip Chip Hooray!
When you visit Robot City you may well need some help navigating around the place. It's a big City and it's very easy to get lost in it. But don't despair just ask one of the "Chips" to help you out. The first Chip Robot was rolled out in 1979. One year later there were Seven Chips operational. By 2010 The Chip Network had expanded to 100 and today there are 123 Chip Robots in the Chip Network with plans for more to be rolled out over the next few years.
All the Chips are painted in striking yellow and red colours of the same design to make them both stand out and be easily recognisable. The only differences between all 123 of them is that they each have an individual number.
So if you want directions or want to know which hotel to stay at or which restaurants are nearby just ask a Chip. They are linked up to the Official Robot City Tourist Board Information Centre and to each other. They also access all the Independent Tourist and Information Outlets within the City. Over the years they have grown their network of information about the City from train timetables with updates on arrivals to the history of all the areas of the City.
Often the Chips have access to special offers on shows and museums available only through the Chip Network. They are a non profit organisation of Robots built only to serve the City and all it's visitors.
Being a Chip
The Chip Network is everywhere linking you to the City! But what's it like to be one of the Chip Network? We went straight to the Chip with the most experience to find out…
"There's nothing I like more than networking!" said Chip Number One recently. When he was activated back in 1979 he was the only Chip Robot at the time. "I wasn't alone for long though as Chips Two to Seven were built and operational within one year. It was great back then as we all felt like we were part of a special club. We called ourselves things like "The Chip Brothers" and "Team Chip". Chip Five always wanted to call us "The Mighty Chip Super Group!" but the rest of us thought that was too long winded. As I said it was great back then but you know what it's still great today…in fact it's even better than before. Now we really are a Network of Chip Robots. I've been upgraded many times. What happens is every two months we all get called in and our circuits are checked and the latest software upgrades are all loaded in.
At the Robot City Tourist Board it is essential that we all have the latest up to date information about what's happening in the City with things like road works, new restaurants, the latests shows and train timetables. Because there are so many of us now we all concentrate on different areas and tasks and rotate around the City. For instance I'm at the Central Train Station for a month with three other Chips. We pass on all the latest information about the Station and trains to the rest of the Network so we're all in the know. We've got to be prepared for any question any tourist or anyone or any Robot in Robot City might ask. I'm glad it's not just down to me. I'd be lost without the rest of The Chip Network…and so might you!"
